Two Connected Experiences Within India’s Artisan Garment Industry
The 2027 India Design Immersion offers participants two connected experiences within India’s artisan garment industry.
The KOCO Knitting Immersion provides the opportunity to work directly with KOCO knitters in Pondicherry to develop your own garments.
The Optional Jaipur Extension opens the door to another world of artisan garment production, including embroidery, beadwork, Bagru printing, customised printing blocks, hand-dyed fabrics and the possibility of developing future samples.
Participants may join the KOCO Knitting Immersion alone or continue with the group to Jaipur.
This is not conventional textile tourism. It is direct access to skilled artisans, specialist techniques and trusted production relationships established by KOCO.
Work Directly with KOCO Knitters
Work directly with KOCO knitters to develop your own garments.
During the immersion, participants will work with KOCO knitters on their garments, swatches and yarn selections. This is direct creative collaboration with the women whose skill and knowledge make KOCO’s hand-knitted garments possible.
From the first tension swatch through stitch architecture and structural choices, you’ll witness and take part in the Haute Tricot methodology in real time — translating design concepts into precise, reproducible hand-knit pieces.
Your KOCO Knitting Immersion
A balanced progression from arrival to intensive creative collaboration in Tamil Nadu.
Arrive in Chennai
All participants must arrive in Chennai on Sunday 17 January. KOCO will arrange airport collection and transfer participants to their accommodation. The group will spend Sunday night in Chennai.
Chennai serves as the arrival point and overnight resting stop for the group.
Travel to Pondicherry
The group will travel from Chennai to Pondicherry and check into the Pondicherry accommodation. Participants will begin meeting and working with KOCO knitters.
First introductions, settling into the coastal hub, and opening project discussions.
Work with KOCO Knitters
Participants will work directly with KOCO knitters to develop their own garments.

Includes village hub visits, artisan community time, and Pondicherry cultural exploration.
Return to Chennai Airport
The group will travel from Pondicherry to Chennai Airport. Participants who are completing their journey will depart from Chennai Airport.
Participants taking the Optional Jaipur Extension will fly with the group from Chennai to Jaipur.
What the KOCO Knitting Immersion Includes
Five Nights’ Single Room
One night in Chennai on Sunday 17 January. Four nights in Pondicherry from Monday 18 January until Friday 22 January. All accommodation based on single occupancy.

Meals are included throughout the KOCO Knitting Immersion. (Note: Meals are not included during the Optional Jaipur Extension).
Comprehensive Transport
Airport collection in Chennai on Sunday 17 January. Transport from Chennai to Pondicherry. Local transport associated with the KOCO immersion. Transport from Pondicherry to Chennai Airport on Friday 22 January.
KOCO Knitwear Development
Direct access to the KOCO knitting hubs and direct collaboration with KOCO knitters. Development of your own garments, swatches, stitches, and yarn selections.

Discover Jaipur’s World of Artisan Garment Production
Continue from the KOCO Knitting Immersion to Jaipur for four nights of privileged access to another extraordinary area of India’s artisan garment industry.
Through relationships established by KOCO, participants will spend two full days exploring the skills, techniques and creative possibilities available through Jaipur’s artisan garment-production community.
Participants will encounter embroidery, machine embroidery, beadwork, Bagru printing, customised printing blocks, fabrics, print development and hand dyeing.
They will have the opportunity to work with fabrics, customise their own printing block and explore the possibility of having a sample developed.
Any sample will depend on the design, materials, available time and production requirements. A completed sample is not guaranteed or included in the extension price.
The real value of Jaipur lies in the access: meeting highly skilled artisans, understanding what is possible and creating relationships that participants can continue after the journey.
Four Nights in Jaipur
Focused artisan access, hands-on block printing, embroidery, and creative immersion.
Fly to Jaipur
After returning from Pondicherry to Chennai Airport, participants taking the extension will fly with the group from Chennai to Jaipur. The group will check into the Jaipur accommodation and prepare for the first full artisan day.
The Chennai-to-Jaipur airfare is not included in the extension price. KOCO may arrange the flight separately so the group can travel together.

First full day exploring Jaipur’s artisan capabilities:

Jaipur’s Creative Community

Second full artisan day providing a deeper exploration of:

Departure from Jaipur
Participants will be transferred to Jaipur Airport for their onward flights.
End of the journey, with artisan contacts and established supplier relationships.
